New Office, New View: Why I’m Not Missing the Commute
I recently moved my home office from the back room to the front of the house. Now I get to watch bunnies hop across the yard, squirrels jump from tree to tree and the mailman deliver my latest TikTok shop orders. It's a small shift, but it changed a lot.
My husband joked that I have to wake up 20 seconds earlier since my commute is now slightly longer. Fair. But with this new front-row seat, work feels lighter, fresher and somehow more fun.
Working from Home Comes with Perks
The freedom to structure my day is something I don’t take for granted. I can get things done without the stress of traffic or the background noise of an office. I’ve got sunlight in my windows and maybe a bunny keeping me company while I work. Not bad.
Forward-Thinking Companies Are Leaning In
Remote work isn’t just about comfort. It's smart business. Companies that embrace flexibility can hire top talent from anywhere, not just from within commuting distance.
The finance and insurance industry, where I work, leads the way, with about 30% of full-time roles now fully remote — more than any other sector in the U.S. (Source: Backlinko)
Remote roles with clear performance goals also see a 12% productivity boost compared to in-office roles, and turnover drops when flexibility is offered. (Source: Wired and Stanford News)
Connection Still Matters
Even though we’re remote, we still celebrate team birthdays and work anniversaries. We get together in-person for strategy planning. We stay connected and collaborative. And our financial professionals are remote too. They are constantly on the move to meet clients where they are. It just makes sense that we work the same way.
Final Thoughts
The front room may be a few steps farther from the coffee maker, but the view is better and the freedom is even better than that.
Remote work works. For employees. For teams. For companies that want to keep growing with the right people in the right roles, no matter where they live.
